At ámaxa, we love to welcome new people to our project! Ámaxa started with only 5 members and now, just over
a year after launching, we have welcomed our first cohort of summer interns.
Summer interns serve a wide range of roles such as social media managers, blog writers and editors,
operations coordinators, digital marketing managers, community builders, development coordinators,
fundraising coordinators, program managers, and front-end engineers. Each of them brings an amazing set of
skills and great ideas.
When asked to describe our summer team in one sentence, Karina Miszori, our Chief Social Offer, said “The team is made up of
creative individuals with a high drive for initiative.” Zahi Awad, one of our two Social Media Managers, described them as
“ambitious to take this organization to the next level.” Personally, I would describe us as a group of
diverse and highly motivated individuals looking to maximize their impact on the world. The ámaxa team has a
common goal which is to advance this initiative while gaining valuable experience.
Our 13 summer interns along with the core team represent a total of 11 nationalities from North and South
America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Our interns come from top universities such as NYU Abu Dhabi,
Boston University, UCLA, University of Oregon, Rice University, Emory University & beyond. They major in a
wide range of fields from economics and public policy to psychology and engineering!

This diversity definitely adds a lot of value to our team and our work! Brynli Nelson, our Public Relations
Intern, highlighted that she enjoys being part of such a diverse team and listening to their approaches to
different projects.
Participating in an internship as an undergrad student is a great opportunity to gain new skills and
experiences that will benefit your career. Working with people who share the same passion to “make a
difference in the world by assisting and transforming people's lives and creating opportunities for the next
generation to do the same,” stated Zahi, is one of the best things about working at ámaxa during the summer.
How did our interns make the decision to join ámaxa?
Maadaa Bayarsaikhan, Social Media Manager, said she found ámaxa on the NYU Abu Dhabi Opportunities page. She
found ámaxa’s mission intriguing and thought the position would be useful to her career development.
Although the social media manager position was not necessarily related to her major, she still wanted to
join ámaxa to gain new skills.
I heard about ámaxa through a classmate who posted about it on social media. I checked ámaxa’s website and
thought “I wish this existed when I was in high school!” I joined as a blog writer because of my passion for
writing and learning more about social impact. Writing articles for our blog has allowed me to learn more
about amazing impact initiatives happening globally. Writing for the blog has helped me to perfect my
research and writing skills as I prepare for my career.

On the other hand, Phoebe Cox, Fundraising Development Coordinator, got to ámaxa after having met Lauren McMillen, our CEO,
through a humanitarian aid charity, and connected with her passion to support high school students in
creating tangible impact. “Instead of just creating petitions and writing letters, they are paired with
experts and mentors who guide them to make a real, actionable impact,” said Phoebe.
Similarly, Brynli was also drawn to ámaxa because she loved ámaxa’s approach to building close connections
through the mentorship program which ensures teens can make the most out of their ámaxa projects.
For Karina, who started in January, working at ámaxa has been a great opportunity to connect her passion and
enjoyment for social media with her hopes of creating positive change in the world. For Zahi, being at ámaxa
has pushed him out of his comfort zone as he records TikToks and creates content on Canva– two things he did
not experience before but discovered he enjoys.

We look forward to all of our future projects in these coming months, as well as creating more initiatives,
gaining more skills, and growing personally and professionally. Most importantly, we are excited to continue
to be part of ámaxa’s growth in their mission to help students maximize their impact in whatever way we can.
Last but not least, we are also really looking forward to seeing more from Hela, our official mascot and our
CEO’s cat! She’s definitely an important part of our team.
